Axillary liposuction is targeted liposuction of the underarm and the fold where the arm meets the chest wall, often called armpit fat or the bra bulge. The fullness may be ordinary fat or, in some patients, a small amount of extra breast tissue in the armpit. Dr. Goel identifies which one you have before treatment, because the right plan depends on it.
Consider axillary liposuction if you have:
When loose skin is the main concern rather than fat, an arm lift may be the better choice. Dr. Goel will tell you honestly which approach fits.
Incisions of a few millimeters are hidden within the natural creases of the armpit. Dr. Goel uses fine cannulas to remove fat in careful layers, tapering the contour into the arm, chest, and back so there is no visible edge. If extra breast tissue is present, he discusses whether excision is needed for a complete result.
Most patients return to desk work within three to five days. A compression garment is worn for several weeks to support the new contour. Arm movement is encouraged early, while strenuous upper-body exercise resumes around three to four weeks. Results refine as swelling settles over two to three months and are long-lasting with a stable weight.
Dr. Goel trained at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and completed plastic surgery training at UC Irvine, followed by fellowship training in aesthetic surgery. He treats the underarm as part of the whole upper body, so the result looks natural from every angle.
The incisions are tiny and placed in the armpit creases, so they are very difficult to see once healed.
Yes. Some patients have accessory breast tissue in the armpit. Dr. Goel examines the area carefully and tailors treatment to what is actually there.
Often yes. It pairs well with breast surgery, arm contouring, or liposuction of the back and flanks.
