What is otoplasty?

Otoplasty is surgery of the outer ear. Most commonly it sets prominent ears closer to the head, a technique often called ear pinning. It can also reshape folds that never fully formed, correct asymmetry between the ears, or refine ears that stick out at the top, middle, or lobe.

02

Is otoplasty right for you?

Otoplasty helps people who:

  • Feel self-conscious about ears that project noticeably
  • Hide their ears with hair or hats
  • Have asymmetric ears or underdeveloped folds
  • Are children old enough that the ears are fully grown, usually from age five or six

For children, timing before the school years can spare a lot of teasing. For adults, it is never too late. Many otoplasty patients say they wish they had done it decades earlier.

How Dr. Goel performs otoplasty

The incision hides in the crease behind the ear. Dr. Goel reshapes the cartilage with permanent internal sutures, recreating natural folds and setting the ear at a balanced angle. Both ears are refined together for symmetry, even when only one seems prominent. The procedure takes one to two hours.

A soft protective headband is worn for the first days, then at night for a few weeks. Discomfort is mild and managed easily. Most adults return to work in about a week, and children are typically back to school in a similar time. Contact sports wait about a month.

Our Philosophy

Refinement over reinvention. Every result should look like the version of you people already recognize, only rested and at ease.

Otoplasty FAQ

Will the results look natural?

Yes. The goal is an ear with soft, normal folds at a balanced angle. Overcorrection is avoided deliberately.

Is otoplasty painful?

Discomfort is mild and short-lived. Most patients describe soreness rather than pain.

Are results permanent?

Yes. The cartilage is reshaped with permanent sutures and holds its new position.
