Implant removal, or explant surgery, takes out breast implants placed in a previous surgery. Depending on your situation and preference, the surrounding scar capsule may be removed as well. Some patients stop there. Others combine removal with a lift or fat grafting to restore shape once the implants are gone.
Women choose explant for many reasons:
Whatever the reason, it is valid. Dr. Goel's role is to explain your options clearly, including what your breasts are likely to look like with removal alone versus removal with a lift.
Whenever possible, Dr. Goel works through your existing scar, adding no new visible incisions. The implant is removed, and the capsule is addressed based on your anatomy and wishes, including total capsulectomy when appropriate. If you choose a simultaneous lift or fat transfer, he shapes the remaining tissue so you leave with a breast you feel good about, not just an empty space.
Removal alone is often easier than the original augmentation, with many patients back to desk work within a week. Adding a lift extends recovery modestly. Breasts continue settling into their natural shape over two to three months.
Trained at USC's Keck School of Medicine and Chief Resident at UC Irvine, Dr. Goel approaches explant without agenda. His job is your goal, executed safely and finished beautifully.
It depends on your skin, tissue, and implant size. Dr. Goel will show you what to expect and whether a lift would help.
Sometimes yes, sometimes it is unnecessary surgery. Dr. Goel evaluates your capsule and explains the honest trade-offs.
Usually yes. Combining them means one anesthesia and one recovery.
